The neck and shoulder muscles commonly refer pain to the temples, forehead and the back of the head (occiput) producing a chronic headache and facial pain.

Headache Specialist NY

It is possible that if you suffer from chronic heads (tension headaches, migraine headaches, cluster headaches, or facial pain, a misaligned bite may be at fault due to constant cranial muscle strain. Headaches from teeth, muscles, and bone misalignment are a type of muscle tension headache experienced by millions of men, women, and children every year. You may experience the feeling on one or both sides of your head – the sensation will be a dull, non-throbbing ache that can usually be calmed by painkillers. However, the painkillers are just masking the symptoms of the condition; Airway Centric™ dentistry treatments can heal the source, diminishing the likelihood of future headaches resulting in a headache-free lift.

The etiology of these headaches is varied but often results from micro or macro trauma, in other words, repetitive clenching and grinding or more overt trauma. Other contributing factors to chronic headaches are stress, anxiety, systemic joint laxity,  bicuspid extractions, orthodontics, posture, and/or sleep disorders.

If you currently experience headaches, or other head, neck or facial aches, please feel contact the best in class, top rated headache specialist, Doctor Michael Gelb’s NYC or White Plains, New York acclaimed Gelb Center office today to treat and finally rid you of your headaches.

Common Headaches Encountered

The most common headaches The Gelb Center of NYC and White Plains, New York encounters and provide immediate treatments and relief for include:

  • TENSION HEADACHES: Tension Headaches comprise 90% of all headaches. The pain can range from dull and achy to pressure like and throbbing. Many of our New York and out of town headache suffering patients complain that their head is being squeezed in a vice. These headaches are typically in the frontal temporal region but can radiate from the back of the neck up to the top of the head. Pain is often experienced above and below the eye accompanied by blurred vision. At The Gelb Center, we evaluate each patient by their chief complaint and the history of that complaint. Listening to the diagnoses and treatments that have been recommended in the past, noting what helped and what was equivocal will help determine a diagnosis. After evaluating the cervical region, the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), the muscles of the head and neck as well as the tendons and ligaments, all of which can produce tension type headaches, a diagnosis can be made. The three branches of the trigeminal nerve are all capable of producing tension type headache in the area of the eye, mid-face and jaws. By working with our team of specialists in TMJ, we can decrease the convergence or input from the trigeminal system and reduce or eliminate your headaches.
  • MIGRAINE HEADACHES: Headaches that are throbbing in nature accompanied by nausea and vomiting, as well as phono- and photophobia, can be classified as migraines. If you are a migraine suffered you understand that this type of headache is debilitating. An aura may or may not precede the migraine and there is often a dull headache following the migraine. There are new to market migraine medications as well as preventive medications for migraine headaches that can treat your pain at the onset of the migraine. Some of these migraine medications can also help relieve tension headaches. Most migraine patients are under the care of a neurologist or family doctor and have had a brain scan which is within normal limits. Some migraine headache suffers have low magnesium levels and diagnosing this condition and treating this has brought new lift to many of our migraine headache suffering patients. The Gelb Center has found that Botox injections have been helpful for other refractory patients. We see many patients with a migraine or mixed headache history which still have negative input into their trigeminal system. By minimizing this trigeminal convergence, we can often reduce or eliminate migraine headaches. Patients, however, still need to be mindful of food sensitivities and other triggers such as alcohol – all of which we can determine may be a cause of your migraine headaches.
  • NECK PAIN BASED HEADACHES:  By stabilizing the jaw and alleviating harmful trigeminal input, neck pain can often be successfully treated by The Gelb Center chiropractors, osteopaths and physical therapists. Our trained specialists take a thorough trauma history and look at the cranial system as well and can determine if this is the cause to your headache history and successfully treat neck pain based headaches.
